Marangu Route – “Coca-Cola Route”
Marangu is the oldest and most established route on Mount Kilimanjaro, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route.” It is the only route that offers permanent sleeping huts with beds and mattresses, providing shelter and extra comfort making it especially suitable during the rainy season when the warm huts offer refuge from wet conditions.
The route follows a well-defined trail through rich ecological zones from lush rainforest to heather and moorland, then alpine desert, all the way to the glacier-capped summit at Uhuru Peak.
Marangu can be completed in 5 or 6 days, with the 6-day itinerary offering better acclimatization to the altitude. The terrain is smooth and gradual, making it one of the more accessible climbs, though the challenge of high altitude remains.
It also offers stunning views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, with a dramatic stretch across the saddle.
